experiments, occasionally explosive

2013 Γ

My 3rd beer of 2013 is a Northern English Brown (BJCP 11C) ale, Austin Homebrew’s London Calling.

November 3 Launch Report

Two flights total. One was elaborate, with the new Wildman DarkStar kit. This was also a shakedown flight with new electronics, a Featherweight Raven2 with one of the 38mm Raven av-bays.

First Flight

The electronics performed perfectly. I also created good charges with actual FFFF BP, which seems more reliable. The only problems were the magnetic switch. It’s incredibly twitchy. I experimented at home afterwards, and sort-of figured it out. The keys will be aligning the power LED with the vent hole, and possibly labeling the magnet, since one orientation of North/South energizes the switch, while the other disables it.

The DarkStar flight went to 3560’, on an I motor. Perfect dual deployment, slight tree issue during recovery. Thanks to Katie and Sean, it wasn’t a big deal.

Second Flight

Second flight was a simple single-deploy flight of my PML AMRAAM model on an H motor. Up and down, only about 1000’ total. Landed right by the pad.
